INtroducing BRAVE into clinical pathways

BRAVE  is designed to be introduced to patients during their consultation with their medical team. It is not available for direct purchase by patients.

If a patient becomes aware of BRAVE independently, we encourage them to discuss it with their clinical team, who can then contact us directly regarding adoption through their service or Cancer Alliance.

Our approach ensures BRAVE is used appropriately and with clinical support — embedded within NHS breast cancer pathways and private practice and aligned with best practice in shared decision-making.

FAQ

WHO IS BRAVE FOR?

NHS Cancer Alliances and Breast Cancer Units, Private Hospitals, Multidisciplinary Breast Teams supporting women undergoing mastectomy, with or without breast reconstruction, Breast Specialist Nurses and Consultants.

IS BRAVE AVAILABLE NOW?

BRAVE 1.0 has been trialled at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and formally evaluated with the support of Against Breast Cancer and HumanListening. Following the evaluation and implementation of evaluation findings, BRAVE 1.1 is now ready and available to purchase.

WHAT IS YOUR PLAN?

Our ambition is for BRAVE to be made available to as many women as possible across England, through NHS Cancer Alliances and private hospitals, ensuring equitable access to high-quality visual decision support.
One NHS Cancer Alliance has already commissioned BRAVE in principle, supporting initial distribution within their region. We are now working towards wider adoption across additional NHS Cancer Alliances.
When adopted at scale, BRAVE has the potential to become a nationally consistent visual reference for breast surgery decision-making.

HOW DO I AS A PATIENT ACCESS BRAVE?

BRAVE is given to you by your clinical team during your consultation. This means your nurse or surgeon can explain which options are most suitable for you and guide you through the information in a way that’s personal to your diagnosis and your body. Introducing BRAVE in this way supports informed, confident decision‑making and gives you space to reflect on your choices with your medical team and at home with your loved ones.
